Monterey County Herald: Guest Editorial PK Diffenbaugh: State Budget Must Reflect Our Values: Invest in Schools

Educators will be forced to overcome this budget challenge — offering services despite the lack of adequate resources. We shouldn’t have to. It is a reflection of our societal values that we continue to underfund our schools while relying on them to be the primary institution responsible for meeting the needs of our most vulnerable populations. The COVID-19 global health crisis has forced the closure of schools across the country and prompted sudden shifts to Distance Learning. Distance/Online Learning & School Closure Update

Spring Break was very different this year as compared to other years, but we hope you had an opportunity to find some joy and rest. As our Spring Break comes to an end this Friday, March 27, I wanted to provide you some important information about school closures and our transition to online/distance learning. Today, the Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deneen Guss and county district superintendents decided that all schools within Monterey County will be closed until at least May 4th.

Principal's Message

Dear Del Rey Woods Families,

I write with much enthusiasm to welcome all our new and returning Dolphins to the 2018 - 2019 school year. I hope you had an adventure-filled summer vacation and are ready to return to DRW on August 8th.

The entire DRW staff has been busy during the summer months preparing extensively for the new school year.  You will notice that our office has a new look, courtesy of our amazing teachers and office supervisor who came in during their break to paint and organize the space. Mrs. Siemensma and Mrs. Ficarra provided small group reading and writing instruction in June. Ms. Fouser and Mrs. Synold conducted Kinder Camp for three days in July. The Instructional Leadership Team spent several hours reflecting and planning for this year. Our new and returning teachers had been sprucing up their rooms, happily anticipating the first day of school.

We are all very excited to begin the year and fulfill our commitment to academic, personal, and social excellence. We invite you to continue to partner with us in ensuring that our students are successful, safe, and happy at Del Rey Woods.

As we begin the year, remember our MPUSD Way -

Every person matters
Each day counts
Learn something new everyday
Improve with purpose
We’re better together!

To an amazing year,

Mrs. Lynn Ebora
