Unity Day Tomorrow!

Posted Date: 10/20/26 (11:56 AM)

We hope to see you tomorrow! Unity Day is important to us at Del Rey Woods! Did you know every day our classes start with circle time when we do social/ emotional work? This week we are focusing on anti-bullying, and our Unity Day is a way to celebrate recognizing bullying, understanding the difference between bullying and conflict, being an upstander, reporting bullying and building a positive school community.  See below for a description of what we are learning this week. Our pumpkin patch will happen rain or shine so please have students bring a rain coat. Thank you to Student Leadership for coming early to set up our pumpkin patch!

It is also a fun day! You can celebrate with us by:
  • Having your student wear orange! (Or get an orange ribbon from us)
  • Coming to our day to pick a pumpkin with your child at our Unity Day Pumpkin Patch!
  • Take the Youth Truth Survey! We will have bagels, donuts, coffee and hot apple cider in room B1 for all parents who come to our Unity Day, and you can do the survey there too!
Thank you for being a part of our school and we hope to see you tomorrow!

Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit

Parent Information | Transitional Kindergarten–6th Grade

At Del Rey Woods Elementary, students in TK–6th grade participate in the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit to help create a safe, respectful, and welcoming school community where every student feels they belong.

Throughout the unit, students learn how to recognize bullying, understand the difference between bullying and ordinary conflict, and take safe, positive steps when bullying occurs.

Students will learn to:

  • Recognize bullying: Understand that bullying involves hurtful behavior that is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, and includes a real or perceived imbalance of power.
  • Understand the difference between bullying and conflict: Learn that disagreements and occasional unkind behavior are not always bullying, but all hurtful behavior should be addressed.
  • Report bullying: Identify trusted adults at school and at home who can help them feel safe.
  • Be an upstander: Learn safe ways to support classmates who are being bullied, rather than joining in or remaining a bystander.
  • Build a positive school community: Practice empathy, kindness, respect, and inclusion.

Lessons are developmentally appropriate for each grade level, using age-appropriate discussions, examples, and activities to help students apply these skills in everyday situations.

How families can help: Talk with your child about treating others with kindness, recognizing hurtful behavior, and telling a trusted adult if they or someone else is experiencing bullying. Encourage your child to share concerns and remind them that asking an adult for help is the right thing to do.

Together, we can help ensure that every Del Rey Woods Dolphin feels safe, respected, included, and ready to learn
