MPUSD Grows its Own in its Teacher Residency Program

Seeking Sixth Cohort for 2024-2025

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is seeking applications for the sixth cohort of its Alder teacher residency program for the 2024-2025 school year. This unique “grow its own teacher” program allows future teachers to earn their masters degree and teaching credential in one year. During the program, participants are paired with an MPUSD teacher and gain classroom teaching experience during the school year.

The tuition for the annual program is $21,930. Benefits of program participation include:

  • $45,000 living stipend
  • $10,000 tuition reimbursement for math, science, Spanish, and Special Education candidates
  • Up to $10,000 in scholarships
  • Up to $40,000 in federal financial aid and loans
  • Earning a Master's Degree and Teaching Credential
  • Priority hiring for a full-time position in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District

The application deadline for the Alder program is February 24, 2024 with interview dates to be announced soon.

Interested applicants are invited to an informational community event on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the City of Seaside’s Soper Center located at 220 Coe Avenue in Seaside. Complimentary dinner will be offered.
