Appointment of Mariana Monge as principal

Del Rey Woods Elementary School Families:

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is committed to offering a high quality educational experience to students and believes that effective school leadership is the lever to school improvement. As you know, Principal Lynn Ebora stepped down as principal of Del Rey Woods Elementary after many years of service. Mrs. Ebora has been a strong advocate and school leader and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.

We are pleased to share that the Board of Education this evening appointed Mariana Monge to serve as the new principal of Del Rey Woods Elementary School effective for the 2023-2024 school year. Mariana is a well-respected instructional, community, and equity leader and has a passion for serving Del Rey Woods where she started her career within MPUSD as a bilingual 1st grade teacher. She has also served as an academic coach at the former Highland Elementary School and at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School of the Arts. Currently, she serves MPUSD as the Director of Multilingual Learners.

We have every confidence that Mariana will bring her passion and commitment to equity as she continues her leadership journey as the principal of Del Rey Woods Elementary.

Mariana will host informal meet and greets with staff and families at Del Rey Woods prior to the start of the 2023-2024 school year as she prepares to connect with and learn together to best serve students and families.

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Principal Mariana Monge to her new role.
